Russell Dickerson was recently honored with a 10 year safe driving award. Dickerson says he was elated to reach this benchmark. "I am the 86th person since 1984 to receive this award at my company. It means a lot to me that I was able to achieve this on time," he said.
A surprise ceremony was held for Dickerson on September 12th where he was commemorated with a company ring present by Vice President of Risk Management, Ronnie Holland. Ronnie stated, “Russell is a great person and a valuable asset to our company. He continually supersedes expectations," Holland said. "Highly motivated, he's diligent about what he does and an outstanding member of our team. We are very proud of him."
When it comes to the road, Dickerson says "a driver's record is his livelihood" and that he's fortunate. Dickerson moved to Tennessee in 1996 where he has driven his truck for nearly 20 years. He has been with Star Transportation for the past 12 years.
"No matter what you do, you always want to remain as polished as possible. I have worked hard and I'm fortunate that I don't have to settle for less because I have earned this position," he said. "My job provides a very nice living and I do not take that for granted at any level. Truck driving is 100 percent all the time. You must be on your game every day to do this job well and to do it safely."
Russell plans to stay at STAR for a long time, he said "I enjoy working with this company. Along with driving, I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to assist in the planning of our driver appreciation events and I hope to continue to have the opportunity to do so," he said. "Truck driving is not about one person and I didn't achieve this award alone."
